ISD: Dyslexia Family & Staff Engagement Event

Description

On November 10, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Issaquah Schools will host an online, interactive experience, geared toward families and staff, to deepen our understanding of and shared commitment to addressing the needs of our students with dyslexia. Dr. Alicia Roberts Frank, Regional Dyslexia Specialist with Educational Service District 113, will facilitate the activities.

Dyslexia represents the most common and most prevalent of all known learning disabilities and impacts approximately one in five individuals. Research has shown that the brains of individuals with dyslexia show structural and functional variations, which explain why some individuals struggle to master reading, writing, spelling and occasionally math, despite their intelligence and effort. This workshop will provide participants an experience of what it feels like to struggle with academic skills related to dyslexia.
